Call Vermell
1.n. Name given to the reddish soil on the island of Mallorca. It is a clayey, reddish-colored soil, often mixed with gravel or small stones, formed from the erosion of limestone rocks.
2. Very dry, rich red soil that sharpens the plow as it is tilled (Mallorca).
Philosophy
Call Vermell Ceramic Studio was founded in 1986 by ceramist Maria Ramis. Her work bridges the past and present, drawing inspiration from prehistoric and ancient Mediterranean ceramics to create contemporary pieces where nature and chance shape the process..
Today, we continue her legacy, bringing handmade ceramics and artisanal tableware to homes with beauty and joy. We have also expanded our passion for art with a carefully curated selection of art, photography, and design books, designed to inspire and connect with creative culture.
Rooted in Mediterranean tradition, we celebrate the art of sharing meals and welcoming others around a beautifully set table. Our goal is to bring the richness of Mallorca’s craft heritage and artistic spirit into everyday life, making each moment a small celebration.
Maria Ramis (Felanitx, 1961)
Graduada en Ceràmica per l'Escola d'Arts i Oficis de Palma de Mallorca (1983), Maria Ramis dirigeix des de 1986 el Taller Escola de Ceràmica Call Vermell al seu poble natal, Felanitx.
Amb més de vint anys de trajectòria artística, ha realitzat nombroses exposicions individuals a Mallorca, Menorca, Barcelona i Saragossa, i ha participat en més de 25 exposicions col·lectives. La seva obra ha estat reconeguda amb diversos premis i distincions, i compta amb la carta de mestra artesana.
Al llarg de la seva carrera, ha col·laborat amb altres artistes destacats, com el pintor Andreu Maimó, amb qui va crear troncs de figuera a mida real per a una exposició al Museu de Mallorca. També ha dissenyat peces per a projectes escenogràfics, com el muntatge coreogràfic Terra Roja de la ballarina Lupe Obrador, amb música de Joan Valent.
El seu treball es caracteritza per formes orgàniques i esmalts mats en tons terrrosos, amb una estètica que s’inspira en la prehistòria mediterrània, especialment la balear, així com en el mar i la natura que l’envolta. La seva ceràmica artística i decorativa és una expressió del vincle profund amb la cultura mediterrània i el seu entorn natural.
